The newest Kuroshitusji chapter is interesting for a couple of reasons
It reveals the contract had negotiations and wasn’t just there and done when Ciel made his deal with Sebastian.
Ciel didn’t actually wish to track down the mastermind behind his family’s murders (at least not in terms of the contract). He simply wished for Sebastian to act as his pawn.
It showcases Sebastian’s tendency to try and exploit loopholes
It reveals that over time Sebastian got really into his butler persona because it’s quite obvious the previously mentioned tendency got downplayed. It’s still there but he does butler things without Ciel having to say “I command you” all the time that don’t fall into the category of protection from external attacks. And yes he did say he would be Ciel’s slave until the day his wish was granted but he never said he had to do a good job of it (ie a loop hole). He also helped Ciel when he was sick even though it was explicitly stated he didn’t have to do that. Point being, he could do the bare minimum job serving Ciel but he doesn’t because aesthetics. Which leads me to the next point,
Sebastian’s desire to stick to his butler aesthetics isn’t part of their deal, it’s just him. And in a way, it’s him imposing extra rules upon himself. It’s almost his way of making the game more challenging. To paraphrase an earlier chapter, he has fun playing the butler game with Ciel.
Fanon Sebastian will always be way off from Canon Sebastian. Cause Fanon Sebastian is the butler persona minus the “actually a freaking demon” underneath. And this chapter exemplifies this fact because this is Sebastian without any trace of the butler persona.
Sebastian can turn his arm into a saw
Note: Almost all of these things were implied in previous chapters but this chapter solidifies them. Except the saw thing, did not see that coming tbh (why the frick does he use silverware as weapons sometimes?).
